Alex Hughes

Alex Hughes is a Project Manager for International Engagement at the Wildfowl & Wetlands Trust (WWT), specialising in environmental education, visitor engagement, and capacity-building across global wetland partners. A Member of the IUCN Commission on Education and Communication (CEC), her international contributions include facilitating the ASEAN Flyway Network CEPA Learning Forum and delivering a keynote on storytelling and wetlands at the EAZA Annual Conference. Her extensive background in UK zoo education includes roles at Paignton Zoo and Tilgate Park Zoo, where she created the award-winning STAR (Switch To A Reusable) sustainability programme and co-developed the award-winning Tilgate Bites initiative to keep young people connected to nature during Covid-19 school closures. Additionally, she served as Vice Regional Coordinator for BIAZA (South East region) from 2019 to 2023, supporting professional development among zoo educators. Driven by a lifelong passion for inspiring young people through nature and wildlife, Alex remains dedicated to strengthening global networks for conservation communication and environmental learning.
